Chico Buarque Hosts PT Candidate Rally in Rio's Leblon

Singer and composer Chico Buarque, together with jurist Carol Proner, opened their home in the Leblon neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro on 4 August for a political gathering. The event brought together leading figures of the PT‑PCdoB federation Brazil of Hope, which supports President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s slate for the 2026 elections.

Attendees included federal Senate candidate Benedita da Silva, Chamber candidate and former minister Anielle Franco, state assembly candidate Marina do MST and city council candidate Maíra do MST, as well as PCdoB representatives Jandira Feghali and Dani Balbi. The parents of slain councilwoman Marielle Franco were also present. Speakers emphasized the need for a united progressive front to counter the rise of the far‑right, calling for expanded rights, reduced inequality and stronger public policies. The gathering followed a recent convention that endorsed the federation’s support for Eduardo Paes’s mayoral bid and Lula’s re‑election campaign.
