Claudia Sheinbaum launches Oaxaca's Ciudad Salud health complex
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the construction of the Hospital General Regional of the IMSS in San Lorenzo Cacaotepec, Oaxaca, marking the start of the Ciudad Salud “Ñuu Tata” project. The new IMSS hospital will have 530 beds (260 censable, 270 non‑censable), 57 medical specialties, 53 consultorios and nine operating rooms, staffed by 2,826 workers, and is being built by engineers from the Mexican military. The complex will also include an ISSSTE Regional Hospital of Alta Especialidad, 62 % complete, with 508 beds and a 3.5‑billion‑peso investment, and a new IMSS Bienestar hospital of 160 beds. The integrated Ciudad Salud aims to serve more than one million Oaxacans and up to four million residents of neighboring states such as Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas, contributing to the administration’s goal of adding 9,000 new hospital beds nationwide during the current term. In parallel, the federal government delivered 412 INFONAVIT homes in Huajuapan as part of a broader housing programme that targets 1.2 million new homes across Mexico, benefitting millions of families. Over two million older adults have already been credentialized for the universal health‑service model that will allow patients to receive care at IMSS, ISSSTE or IMSS Bienestar facilities regardless of their affiliation.
