Chidimma Adetshina faces deportation battle in South Africa

Former Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, is contesting a deportation order by South Africa's Department of Home Affairs. Authorities allege that her mother, Anabela Rungo, fraudulently registered her birth, leading to a persona non grata declaration. The case is before the Cape Town Regional Court with a judgment expected on 19 August 2026.

A resurfaced video shows Adetshina stating she prefers not to speak isiXhosa and isiZulu, favouring Shangaan (Xitsonga). Separately, a viral video claiming Nigerians were protesting against her was verified as unrelated; the footage dates to 2023 protests over the death of singer Mohbad, not a demonstration against Adetshina.
