Chief Justice of India Surya Kant holds historic open house with law students in Patna

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant held an unprecedented, unscripted open-house interaction with law students at Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) in Patna. The event, described by the university as the first of its kind in Indian history for a sitting Chief Justice, allowed for direct and unfiltered dialogue between the highest level of the judiciary and students.

During the session, the Chief Justice addressed several sensitive topics, including the transparency of the Collegium system, rising law school fees, and the challenges faced by first-generation lawyers. He specifically discussed the need for a professional assistance corpus to support young advocates facing financial vulnerabilities.

Responding to student inquiries regarding police action against protesters, Justice Surya Kant reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to protecting the fundamental right to peaceful protest. The event was attended by Patna High Court Chief Justice V. Kameswar Rao and CNLU Vice-Chancellor Professor Faizan Mustafa.
