Chief Justice Surya Kant launches Commonwealth Peace Mediation and Rule of Law Conference in Jaipur
Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inaugurated a three‑day Commonwealth Peace Mediation and Rule of Law Conference in Jaipur on 31 July 2026. The event, attended by senior judges, the Union Law Minister and other dignitaries, aimed to challenge the view that law operates only in courts and to promote mediation as a complementary pillar of the legal system. Justice Kant stressed that “peace is not the absence of law; it is one of law’s finest achievements,” and highlighted the role of arbitration and mediation in preserving trust in global commerce. The conference also marked the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and sought to produce a “Jaipur Declaration” as a practical guide for legal professionals across the Commonwealth.
