Chief Justice Surya Kant pushes court infrastructure upgrades and youth rehabilitation drive in India

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant inaugurated a new multi-level parking facility at the District Courts Complex in Chandigarh, capable of accommodating 1,200 cars and 500 two‑wheelers. He emphasized that courts, like hospitals, must provide essential amenities for lawyers and litigants, stressing infrastructure as a backbone of civic life.

The CJI also launched the Comprehensive Youth Recovery & Rehabilitation Campaign in Punjab, a three‑month, mission‑mode program targeting substance‑abuse among young people. The initiative, coordinated by District Legal Services Authorities, includes phases of preparation, counseling, referral to de‑addiction centres, and post‑treatment reintegration with education, vocational training and sports. Special attention will be given to incarcerated individuals with addiction issues.

Both actions reflect the CJI’s broader agenda of improving public services and addressing social challenges through coordinated, multi‑sectoral efforts.
