Tamil Nadu Assembly sees heated debate over law and order

Tensions escalated in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as opposition leaders criticized the state government over law and order, corruption, and the conduct of assembly proceedings.

Edappadi K. Palaniswami, General Secretary of the AIADMK, accused the ruling administration of wasting assembly time on political disputes rather than addressing public issues. He specifically highlighted a ₹1,000 crore fraud involving FQEL in the Madurai, Sivaganga, and Dindigul districts, noting that the Chief Minister failed to provide adequate answers regarding the matter.

Udhayanidhi Stalin led an opposition walkout, claiming that the Chief Minister used his 45-minute speech to make unsubstantiated allegations against opposition members instead of answering 15 specific questions raised during previous sessions. He described the government's response as a mere attempt at deflection.

In response, Chief Minister Vijay defended the state's law and order situation, arguing that individual criminal incidents do not equate to a breakdown of state-wide security. He emphasized that a strong police force is essential for economic growth, industrial investment, and public safety, asserting that the government prioritizes a secure environment for all citizens.
