Chieti faces environmental deficits and new administrative mandate

Chieti is facing significant environmental and administrative challenges. According to a 2024 Istat report, the city is among 12 Italian provincial capitals that fail to meet the minimum legal standard of 9 square meters of urban green space per inhabitant. Additionally, Chieti exceeded the long-term target for tropospheric ozone concentrations for more than 25 days, posing risks to human health.

In response to local governance needs, the Chieti City Council has approved the 2026-2031 programmatic lines for Mayor Giovanni Legnini’s administration. The plan, passed with 20 votes in favor, focuses on financial recovery, urban regeneration, public works, and environmental management. Mayor Legnini emphasized that the administration's primary goal is to exit financial distress and reorganize municipal operations to achieve these long-term objectives.
