Chieti Province officials protest lack of funding for weather damage repairs
Over one hundred local administrators, including mayors and parliamentarians, gathered at the Chieti Provincial Council to address the ongoing damage caused by severe weather in April. Francesco Menna, President of the Province of Chieti, stated that despite documenting the damage and reporting it to regional and national governments, no concrete results have been achieved.
Menna highlighted that 396 necessary interventions are required, totaling more than 130 million euros. He expressed concern that communities risk isolation regarding work and healthcare as winter approaches, noting that roads remain in the same condition as they were seven months ago.
During the meeting, Menna criticized the allocation of funds toward other projects, such as arms purchases and the Messina Bridge, rather than local infrastructure. He also disputed claims from regional officials regarding available municipal funds, asserting that previously allocated money had already been used for completed works.
