Chigiana International Festival presents Orpheus-themed concert

The Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy will present "L’isola di Orfeo" on August 11 at Palazzo Chigi Saracini. The concert explores the myth of Orpheus, spanning musical styles from Renaissance polyphony to 20th-century avant-garde.

Violinist Giulia Rimonda, an alumna of the Accademia Chigiana, will perform Hans Werner Henze's solo violin sonata as part of a program celebrating the centenary of the composer's birth. She will be accompanied by organist Cesare Mancini and the Siena Cathedral Choir “Guido Chigi Saracini,” directed by Lorenzo Donati.

The repertoire includes works by Claudio Monteverdi, Ruth Zechlin, and Henze, bridging the gap between historical madrigals and modern musical urgency.
