Chiguayante Santa Sofía crossing works to resume in September

Construction on the Santa Sofía grade-separated railway crossing in Chiguayante, Biobío Region, is scheduled to resume at the end of September. The project had previously been paused due to rising costs.

Following a meeting between Biobío Regional Governor Sergio Giacaman and EFE President Jorge Claude, it was announced that the delay until late September allows the contracted company to secure necessary workers and machinery. Once work restarts, the project is expected to take 18 months to complete.

The total investment for the project has increased to 31,297 million pesos, following a budget adjustment of approximately 9,763 million pesos. This additional funding will be shared equally between the Biobío Regional Government (GORE Biobío), EFE, and Serviu. The infrastructure project aims to improve connectivity and reduce travel times within the Gran Concepción area.
