Chihuahua and Huila post modest 2024 GDP gains

Mexico's state of Chihuahua recorded a Gross Domestic Product (PIBE) of 880.877 billion pesos in 2024, representing 3.7% of the national total. Compared with 2023, the economy shrank 1.0%, driven by a 4.1% decline in primary activities and a 2.9% drop in secondary activities, while the services sector grew 1.2% and helped offset the contraction. Chihuahua remains the eighth‑largest economy in Mexico, with services accounting for 48.7% of its output.

In Colombia, the department of Huila posted a 2.7% increase in its Gross Domestic Product for the most recent year, marking five consecutive years of expansion after the pandemic‑induced recession. Huila’s GDP exceeds 32 trillion pesos, placing it as the thirteenth‑largest economy in the country and contributing just under 2% of the national total. Agriculture now supplies roughly a quarter of the region’s value added, supported by coffee, rice, cocoa, fish farming and fruit production, while sectors such as arts, entertainment, manufacturing and construction also registered notable growth.
