Chihuahua approves reforms to state road and traffic laws

The Chihuahua State Congress has approved reforms to the state's Road and Traffic Law to align with the General Law of Mobility and Road Safety. The updates aim to prioritize people within the mobility system, focusing on the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and persons with disabilities.

Key changes include new restrictions for drivers under 18, who may only drive between 6:00 and 22:00 hours unless accompanied by a legal guardian. Additionally, the reform mandates the use of child safety systems for minors under 1.35 meters in height and prohibits mobile phone use while driving. The law also establishes zero tolerance for alcohol consumption among minors, motorcyclists, and public transport drivers.

Administrative shifts include replacing the Subsecretariat of Roadways and Traffic with the Subsecretariat of Mobility. The reform also introduces requirements for mobility agents, such as the use of body cameras and the obligation to provide respectful treatment to road users.
