Chihuahua athletes compete in UTMB trail running in France

Five athletes from Chihuahua, Mexico, are participating in the UTMB Week 2026 in Chamonix, France, a premier global event for trail running and mountain ultra-distance competitions. The delegation includes Rarámuri runners Reyes Giltro, Jenifer Yáñez, and Mauro Martín Quimare from the Magic Towns of Guachochi and Batopilas, alongside Carlos Baeza and Rodolfo Villalobos.

The athletes qualified through the Chihuahua by UTMB 2025 competition. In the main UTMB event, which covers approximately 174 km around the Mont-Blanc massif with nearly 9,900 meters of elevation gain, Reyes Giltro and Mauro Martín Quimare will compete. Jenifer Yáñez and Rodolfo Villalobos are set to run the CCC, a 100 km race spanning France, Italy, and Switzerland, while Carlos Baeza will participate in the 50 km OCC race.

The Chihuahua Secretariat of Tourism is supporting the delegation, which is accompanied by Alejandra Villalobos Palacio, Director of Tourism Management for Chihuahua. The participation highlights the sporting talent of the region and the long-standing mountain running traditions of the Rarámuri community.
