Chihuahua authorities investigate counterfeit police uniforms

Authorities in Chihuahua are investigating the use of counterfeit police uniforms, which pose a security risk by allowing individuals to potentially impersonate law enforcement officers.

Julio César Salas, commissioner of the Municipal Public Security Directorate (DSPM), stated that official uniforms are equipped with internal barcodes to identify specific officers and verify their authenticity. The DSPM is working to determine the origin of unauthorized garments discovered during various interventions. Salas noted that these counterfeit items may feature identifiers that do not match official sectors, and warned that similar risks exist for state and agency police forces. To maintain control, the DSPM requires officers to sign for their gear and file official reports in the event of loss.
