Chihuahua cattle union outlines border reopening rules as worm spreads

The Unión Ganadera Regional de Chihuahua (UGRCH), led by president Álvaro Bustillos Fuentes, has urged cattle producers, local associations and collectors in the state to rely exclusively on official information regarding the advance of the Gusano Barrenador del Ganado (GBG) and the prospective reopening of the border for live‑cattle export to the United States. The union said that once the authorities formally decide to reopen the border, transparent operating rules, criteria, requirements and mechanisms will be published to ensure clear, equitable and orderly conditions for all participants.

Bustillos Fuentes emphasized that the GBG must not be within 300 km of the border for the reopening to proceed and warned against rumors, chain messages or unverified reports that could cause uncertainty. Official communications on the sanitary situation, worm control measures, sterile‑fly dispersion and border‑opening decisions will be issued by SENASICA, SADER and the state’s rural development secretariat.
