Chihuahua city reports 200 pedestrian collisions this year

According to the State Public Security Secretariat, Chihuahua's capital has recorded 200 pedestrian‑vehicle collisions in 2026, resulting in five deaths and dozens of injuries. The incidents are attributed to excessive speed, failure to respect crosswalks, driver distraction and, in some cases, intoxication by drivers or pedestrians.

A notable case occurred during celebrations of Mexico's World Cup victory when a van entered a crowded area at Glorieta Pancho Villa, injuring six people; the driver was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities stress that preventing such accidents requires cooperation from both drivers and walkers and have advised respecting speed limits, using designated crossings, avoiding cellphone use while driving, and not driving while intoxicated.
