Chihuahua City Council approves sale of Bustamante Street section

The Chihuahua City Council has approved the sale of a 2,110-square-meter section of Bustamante Street in the Altavista neighborhood to Inmobiliarias Alsuper, S. A. de C. V. for 18 million pesos. The transaction involves a stretch of road between 21st Street and Universidad Avenue, which the company intends to remodel and incorporate green spaces into for a commercial project.

The decision has drawn criticism from local officials. Councilman Hugo Eduardo González Muñiz of the Morena party expressed strong opposition, arguing that transferring public infrastructure to private interests sets a dangerous precedent and compromises urban continuity.

Councilman Miguel Riggs noted that while he initially supported the proposal in a finance commission due to an increased valuation and proposed additions of 80 parking spaces, he stated that he would have voted against the measure during the full council session to align with his party’s opposition stance.
