Chihuahua implements educational reforms and new indigenous education directorate

Educational authorities in Chihuahua are implementing several structural reforms to strengthen the state's school system. The Board of Directors of Educational Services of the State of Chihuahua (SEECH) has approved elevating the Department of Indigenous, Migrant, and Mennonite Education to a full Directorate. This move aims to provide specialized services and a pedagogical model focused on inclusion and cultural relevance for these communities.

Additionally, the Secretariat of Education and Sport (SEyD) and the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) are coordinating to update the occupational structure, which has remained unchanged for 11 years. Discussions include expanding upper secondary education coverage in Ciudad Juárez through new campuses and the conversion of middle schools.

To improve school coexistence, authorities presented an updated Local Framework and several protocols designed to prevent and address violence, bullying, and digital abuse. Furthermore, representatives from the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) met with state officials to discuss the 2026-2027 Operational Guide, ensuring labor rights and administrative clarity for the upcoming school cycle. The state also confirmed the distribution of over 4.5 million free textbooks scheduled for August 19.
