Chihuahua electoral institute defines indigenous candidacy requirements

The State Electoral Institute of Chihuahua (IEE) has established the requirements for verifying self-identification certificates for indigenous candidacies. This follows a series of consultations held since March with various indigenous communities across multiple municipalities in the state.

Mayira González Castillo, head of the IEE's Juárez Regional Office, stated that the process aimed to ensure that communities themselves define the criteria for recognizing an individual's belonging to a specific people or community. During the consultations, community members discussed ideal identification criteria, including language proficiency, local residency, and participation in community work.

Based on these inputs, the institute drafted official guidelines to govern candidate registration, ensuring that the accreditation mechanisms align with the specific demands and recognition processes requested by the indigenous populations.
