Chihuahua Electoral Institute Hosts Inclusion Dialogues on Sexual & Gender Diversity

The Chihuahua State Electoral Institute (IEE) organized a series of dialogues in Ciudad Juárez to promote political participation of people of sexual and gender diversity ahead of the local electoral process slated for 2026‑2027. The event featured a keynote by activist and anthropologist Amaranta Gómez Regalado, who highlighted decades of feminist, indigenous, labor and LGBTQ+ movements that have advanced democratic representation, noting recent measures such as affirmative‑action protocols, trans‑person participation guidelines and gender parity mechanisms. She also warned that structural barriers linked to racism, classism and discrimination continue to limit full access to decision‑making spaces.

The sessions included working groups to develop concrete proposals for affirmative actions to be incorporated into the upcoming election framework. Attendees included IEE electoral counselors Vanessa Adriana Armendáriz Orozco and Luis Eduardo Gutiérrez Ruiz, regional office head Mayra González Castillo, and Paola Contestabile Frayre, who moderated the discussions. The initiative is part of the institute’s broader effort to broaden and pluralize political representation for historically excluded groups in Chihuahua.
