Chihuahua Flood Tragedy Claims Life of 80-Year-Old Driver

Heavy rain in Chihuahua city caused flooding that swept vehicles into a canal at the intersection of Avenida Nueva España and Calle 15 de Enero. An 80‑year‑old man identified as Lorenzo C. was driving a red Chevrolet Tornado when the water carried his vehicle into the channel, where it became trapped beneath a black Nissan Versa. Rescue and emergency crews arrived quickly, but the victim was found without vital signs inside his vehicle.

Four additional cars were also dragged by the current at the same crossing, prompting a large deployment of rescue brigades. Municipal president Marco Antonio Bonilla Mendoza issued an urgent appeal for residents to avoid crossing flooded areas, heed civil‑protection alerts, and stay out of high‑risk zones.

Other reports from across Mexico indicate that the same severe weather has generated similar vehicle‑related accidents and fatalities, highlighting the broader danger posed by the ongoing rains.
