Chihuahua Governor Rejects Plan to Change State Prosecutor's Autonomy

Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván said her administration does not plan to modify the legal status of the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) in Chihuahua, though she welcomed proposals. She indicated a profile for the next state prosecutor will be released soon, following the resignation of César Jáuregui Moreno; interim head Francisco Sáenz Soto continues to lead the office.

The FGE also announced that the release and repatriation of former cartel lieutenant Noel “El Flaco” Salgueiro Nevárez will be discussed at an upcoming security table. Salgueiro, once a leader of the Sinaloa Cartel’s armed wing “Gente Nueva,” was extradited to the United States in 2019, completed his sentence, and is now free, with no pending charges in Chihuahua.
