Chihuahua implements new vehicle safety and speed regulations

The state of Chihuahua has implemented reforms to its Road and Transit Law, introducing new safety requirements for vehicle passengers. Under the new regulations, children and adolescents measuring less than 1.35 meters must use an appropriate child restraint system in the rear seat of a vehicle.

The mandate applies to individuals who require such systems due to their physical constitution, regardless of their age or legal status. The restraint devices must comply with Mexican Official Standards (Norma Oficial Mexicana) and be used correctly alongside a seatbelt. Drivers may face sanctions for failing to provide the required safety equipment.

Additionally, the law introduces a 20 km/h speed limit in areas near schools, hospitals, temples, parks, and shelters to enhance pedestrian safety.
