Chihuahua launches 29th edition of Don Quijote reading contest

The Chihuahua Secretariat of Education and Sport (SEyD) has launched the 29th edition of the “Don Quijote nos invita a Leer” state reading contest for the 2026-2027 school year. The program is open to students, families, and school collectives from both public and private institutions, covering levels from preschool to higher education.

The contest features three distinct categories: “Cuentos para Don Quijote” for narrative text creation, “Las Voces del Quijote” for reading aloud, and “Narrativa de Experiencias Pedagógicas” for pedagogical experiences by teaching staff and administrators. Participants are required to read at least five books to qualify. Evaluations will progress from individual school levels to zone and state-wide stages.

Winners in each category will receive prizes including laptops, tablets, smartphones, printers, and speakers, as well as cash prizes ranging from 7,000 to 50,000 pesos. Subsecretary of Basic Education Lorenzo Arturo Parga Amado noted that over the last five years, the program has engaged more than one million readers and accounted for the reading of 5.1 million books across 7,869 schools in all 67 municipalities of the state.
