Chihuahua launches “Mujer Rural 2026” award call
The Secretariat of Rural Development (SDR) has launched the “Mujer Rural 2026” call for entries in Chihuahua, Mexico. The initiative aims to recognize the life stories, efforts, and contributions of women who drive the economic, social, and cultural development of rural communities.
This year, 40 women will be honored across various categories, including agriculture, craftsmanship, livestock, traditional gastronomy, and environmental defense. Selection criteria include length of service in their field, social impact, and the significance of their work. Postulations will be evaluated and voted upon by members of the SDR Gender Equality Unit.
Interested parties or those nominating a candidate must submit a letter detailing the person's life story and contributions by September 15, 2026. The recognition ceremony is scheduled for October 16, 2026, at Expo Chihuahua, coinciding with the International Day of Rural Women.
