Chihuahua launches peace education program for rural communities

A Peace Education and Community Diploma program has launched in Chihuahua, Mexico, targeting educators in 26 municipalities. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua (UACH), the Chihuahua coordination of the National Council for Educational Development (CONAFE), and the Executive Coordination of National Dialogue for Peace.

The program is specifically designed for CONAFE educators working in rural, indigenous, and marginalized urban areas, with a particular focus on the Sierra Tarahumara region. This area faces challenges including violence linked to organized crime, educational gaps, displacements, and disappearances. The curriculum aims to strengthen educators' capacities to implement community practices focused on peacebuilding, dialogue, and conflict resolution through philosophical, pedagogical, and socio-emotional approaches.

Due to the vast distances and difficult access in these regions, the diploma is being conducted virtually via an asynchronous modality. The program consists of six modules, providing recorded sessions and downloadable materials to allow for flexible learning. Approximately 99 percent of the participants are women.
