Mexico launches nationwide child abuse prevention program in schools

Mexico has launched a nationwide initiative titled “Te escucho, te comprendo, te protejo” (I hear you, I understand you, I protect you) to raise awareness regarding the severity of sexual abuse and child maltreatment. The program, coordinated by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP), aims to establish a culture of prevention, detection, and reporting within basic education centers across the country.

In Mexico City, SEP Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo emphasized that the initiative focuses on permanent vigilance and the strengthening of respect and reporting mechanisms to ensure schools and homes are safe environments. Similar awareness efforts are being implemented regionally, including in Hidalgo and Puebla, where thousands of schools are participating in training and informative activities for students, teachers, and families. In Sinaloa, local authorities are also coordinating to provide guidance on identifying and reporting abuse to protect children and adolescents.
