Chihuahua officials seek increased federal infrastructure and security investment
Chihuahua Mayor Marco Bonilla is calling for increased federal investment in infrastructure and security to complement social programs. Following a meeting between President Claudia Sheinbaum and Governor Maru Campos, Bonilla emphasized that coordination between federal and state governments is vital for addressing organized crime and improving road conditions, specifically noting the deterioration of highways connecting Ciudad Juárez to the state capital.
In addition to infrastructure, Bonilla highlighted the need for health projects, such as the potential construction of ISSSTE facilities. Meanwhile, the Chihuahua State Government has launched an initiative to train over 400 teachers to improve English language instruction across various educational levels.
Separately, the State Congress has announced the ‘Medalla Chihuahua al Mérito Médico 2026’, a new award recognizing medical professionals for their academic, research, or social contributions. The award includes a medal and a 30,000 peso incentive.
