Chihuahua legislator demands explanation over child pregnancy prevention strategy

Deputy Elizabeth Guzmán Argueta has formally requested an explanation from the Chihuahua State Government regarding why the entity has not signed the National Manifesto ‘Niñas Sí, Madres No’. This national strategy, promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and the National System for the Integral Protection of Children and Adolescents, aims to combat child sexual violence and prevent underage pregnancies.

Guzmán Argueta presented 11 questions to Secretary General Santiago de la Peña Grajeda, seeking to understand if there were legal, administrative, or political reasons for the state's absence from the agreement. She also inquired about the implementation of the NAME Route across the state's 67 municipalities.

Citing INEGI data, the legislator highlighted a significant emergency: in 2025, Chihuahua recorded 226 births to mothers aged 10 to 14, placing the state fifth nationally in this category. Additionally, 2,924 births were recorded among adolescents aged 15 to 17. The deputy emphasized that these figures represent interrupted childhoods and victims of violence rather than mere demographic statistics, demanding clear instructions for health, education, and legal institutions to protect these minors.
