Chihuahua legislators consider 150‑million‑peso credit for Poniente 5 boulevard

Architect Rodrigo Revilla Romero has warned that the proposed Poniente 5 boulevard in Chihuahua is unlikely to solve the city’s mobility problems and could increase costs and maintenance burdens. He cites a lack of transparent budgeting, noting that the 150 million‑peso credit approved by the city council would only start a project estimated at 1.5 billion pesos, with no full cost accounting provided. Revilla also argues the project conflicts with the city’s 2040 urban development plan and could spur peripheral development without adequate services.

Local deputy Alma Portillo of the Movimiento Ciudadano party stated that the legislative caucus has not yet decided its vote on the credit request. She said the proposal is under detailed review and that an extraordinary session will be convened to discuss the matter before any final decision is made, emphasizing the need for careful scrutiny of public funds.
