Mayor Marco Bonilla launches urban planning council and marks first year of environmental program in Chihuahua

Mayor Marco Bonilla of Chihuahua took the oath of the members of the Municipal Council for Territorial Planning and Urban Development (CMOTDU), emphasizing the need for orderly and sustainable city growth. He highlighted the council’s mixed representation of academia, business, social groups and government as a strength for long‑term planning.

Bonilla also commemorated the one‑year anniversary of the new Coordination of Environment and Animal Protection. The unit reported 3,430 free animal sterilizations, 92 adoptions, 243 rescues, and handling 4,875 citizen complaints with a 75 % response rate. Environmental education reached 8,942 children through a “Detectives Environmental” program, while 342 talks were given in schools and community spaces. The coordination distributed 1,302 plants, planted 691 trees in 19 city sites, and organized clean‑ups of the Río Sacramento and Río Chuvíscar, reinforcing Chihuahua’s sustainable‑development goals.
