Chihuahua initiates $24 M psychotherapy program to curb family violence

The state of Chihuahua, Mexico, is launching a two‑year psychotherapeutic initiative called "Construyendo relaciones para romper el ciclo" (Romper el Ciclo). Funded by Fundación FICOSEC with a total allocation of 24,677,896.98 pesos – more than 13 million directed to the city of Chihuahua and the remainder distributed to Delicias, Cuauhtémoc and Parral – the project will provide specialized cognitive‑behavioral and contextual therapy to adults who are under a judicial process for family‑violence offences.

The programme aims to treat roughly 1,060 participants and, by extension, about 4,000 family members, seeking to lower recidivism rates, impulsivity and improve coping capacities. Implementation will be carried out by the non‑profit Pro Sociedad, hacer el bien, A.C., with oversight from Ficosec director Arturo Luján Olivas and local judicial authorities.

Over the two‑year period the initiative expects to reach at least 640 individuals directly channelled by the Chihuahua State Judicial Power and Penitentiary System, with the broader goal of reducing violence cycles in the region.
