Chihuahua municipality launches program with 90+ sports activities

The municipal government of Chihuahua, Mexico, has opened a Registry of Municipal Sport that now lists more than 90 different disciplines, inviting residents of all ages to participate. The program, overseen by the Institute of Municipal Physical Culture and Sport (IMCFD) director Juan José Abdo Fierro, highlights the city’s extensive infrastructure, including the Luis H. Álvarez sports complex, four city‑wide sports centers, and over 260 urban and rural sport units.

Sixty municipal sport committees coordinate activities for children, youth, indigenous groups, people with disabilities and senior citizens. About 30,000 citizens have already joined the registry, seeking healthier habits, stronger community ties and reduced insecurity. The city administration, led by Mayor Marco Bonilla, emphasizes that regular sport practice improves emotional and physical health, fosters social cohesion and can stimulate local economic development.
