Morena leaders organize for 2027 amid internal tensions and protests

Following internal processes within the Morena party, various political leaders are organizing for the 2027 electoral cycle. In Chihuahua, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, the newly appointed coordinator for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, has announced plans for regional tours focused on unity, territorial strengthening, and dialogue with both supporters and detractors. He has also indicated he will not return to his former role as Mayor of Ciudad Juárez.

However, Pérez Cuéllar faces significant opposition. Members of the Frente por la Soberanía have protested against his administration, alleging corruption and accusing him of violating Morena's principles, specifically regarding property tax increases. Other demonstrators in Ciudad Juárez have called for his removal, citing alleged links to controversial business figures and mismanagement of public resources.

Nationally, Morena is managing the fallout of its recent state coordinator designations. While some leaders, such as Verónica Díaz in Zacatecas and Imelda Castro in Sinaloa, are focusing on territorial organization, there are internal tensions regarding the inclusion of politicians from other parties. Additionally, political maneuvering involving the Green Party (PVEM) has been noted in the distribution of regional coordinations.
