Chihuahua Expo Agro 2026 addresses water scarcity and livestock health

The Expo Agro Internacional Chihuahua 2026 has brought together producers, government officials, and specialists to address critical challenges facing the region's agricultural sector, specifically water scarcity and livestock health.

Mayor Marco Bonilla presented the Municipal Water Plan 2040, highlighting that of Chihuahua's 61 aquifers, 14 are overexploited and 41 have no availability. The strategy focuses on irrigation technification and the use of treated water, including a project to direct 27 million cubic meters of treated water annually to the Tabalaopa-Chihuahua irrigation unit to reduce groundwater extraction.

In addition to water management, the Secretary of Rural Development (SDR) detailed prevention and surveillance measures against the Cattle Screwworm. Efforts include the distribution of prevention kits, training for over 5,250 producers, and the coordination of dispersing 130 million sterile flies to protect livestock.

Technological innovation was also a central theme, with the introduction of the Virtual Center for Added Value (CV2A). This platform aims to connect producers with academia and specialized information to increase the value of the state's agri-food production.
