Chihuahua officials detain suspect and investigate armed attack

Authorities in the Mexican state of Chihuahua arrested a 29‑year‑old man identified as Santos V. C., known as “El Cholo,” after a joint operation by SWAT, police, intelligence, the Federal Investigation Agency and the National Guard in San Francisco de Borja. He was found carrying a gold‑finished Colt .45 pistol, two loaded magazines and ammunition, and was taken into custody on charges of violating federal firearms laws.

In a separate case, the Western District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating an armed assault that occurred on 20 June in the city of Cuauhtémoc. The probe includes allegations that public officials may have assisted the attacker, who fired a .22 caliber round at a vehicle and caused injuries. Evidence such as a .22 cartridge, a vehicle shell, and other forensic material have been secured. The suspect has been presented to a judge, and investigators are also examining possible involvement of municipal police and road‑agency personnel in concealing evidence.
