Chihuahua PAN deputies reject return of automated traffic fines
Joss Vega, president of the Commission for Public Works, Services, and Urban Mobility, has rejected the reinstatement of automated traffic fines (fotomultas) in Chihuahua on behalf of the PAN parliamentary group.
Vega clarified that while recent mobility reforms have increased penalties for high-risk behaviors such as speeding, they do not authorize the return of the automated fine system. She emphasized that the legal procedure governing previous photo-infractions remains repealed.
The legislator argued that technology should be utilized to prevent accidents and improve road safety for pedestrians and drivers, rather than serving as an automatic mechanism for revenue collection. Vega noted that the previous model caused significant public dissatisfaction, including instances where motorists received multiple sanctions for a single incident.
