Chihuahua prosecutors secure heavy prison sentences for kidnappers

The Chihuahua State Attorney General's Office has obtained significant prison sentences in two separate kidnapping cases in Ciudad Juárez.

In one case, four individuals—Dulce Yadira T. B., Luis Elián M. D., Christian Iván H. M., and José Miguel R. M.—were sentenced to a total of 500 years in prison. The group was found responsible for the kidnapping of ten victims in April 2025, during which they held captives under threat and physical aggression while demanding ransom. An intelligence operation led to the rescue of the victims and the capture of the suspects.

In a second case, Bernardo L. M. and Verónica Iveth L. Castillo were sentenced to a total of 770 years in prison for the kidnapping of 14 individuals. Between September and November 2024, the victims—nine Mexican nationals and five Guatemalan nationals—were intercepted while attempting to cross into the United States. The perpetrators held them at a residence, used firearms to coerce them, and demanded $8,000 per person for their release.
