Chihuahua recognized as victim in 98.6 million peso embezzlement case

A federal court has officially recognized the State of Chihuahua, through its Ministry of Finance, as a victim in a case involving the illegal diversion of 98.6 million pesos. The ruling follows a legal dispute regarding aggravated embezzlement.

The Chihuahua Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has accused Federal Judge Roberto Antonio Alcoverde Martínez of acting illegally by attempting to strip the Ministry of Finance of its victim status. The prosecution alleges that Alcoverde, who also presides over the Senate Justice Commission, acted in collusion with an immune defendant to obstruct the case.

The legal controversy is linked to the case of Javier Corral. Following an attempted arrest in Mexico City that resulted in a jurisdictional dispute between local and state authorities, Corral assumed a position as a senator. This move granted him constitutional immunity, complicating the legal proceedings and leading to allegations of political interference and systematic harassment of the state prosecutor's office.
