Chihuahua reports 57 deaths from diarrheal diseases in 2026

The Chihuahua State Health Secretariat (SSE) has reported 57 deaths due to acute diarrheal diseases in the state during 2026. The total number of cases has reached 75,276, with 42,548 women and 32,728 men affected.

Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juárez are the most impacted municipalities, accounting for 39 of the 57 deaths. Other locations with recorded fatalities include Guachochi, Cuauhtémoc, Saucillo, Delicias, Matamoros, Casas Grandes, Janos, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Camargo, Moris, Ocampo, and Allende.

Regarding pediatric health, Chihuahua ranks eighth nationally for the incidence of acute diarrheal diseases among children under five. While the state's rate has decreased from 171.3 cases per 100,000 children in early 2025 to 146.9 as of April 2026, it remains above the national average of 108.8. State Health Secretary Gilberto Baeza Mendoza attributed fluctuations in cases to seasonal heat waves.
