Chihuahua reports increase in adoption cases and child protection efforts

Adoption rates in Chihuahua have seen a significant increase under the current state administration. According to the State DIF, 224 adoption processes were successfully completed during the current term, compared to 114 in the previous administration, representing an increase of nearly 50 percent.

In a recent specific case, a newborn found abandoned in a backpack in the Valles de Chihuahua neighborhood is currently receiving medical care at the General Hospital. Gabriel Eguiarte Fruns, Director General of the State DIF, stated that once the infant is medically cleared, the child will be moved to Casa Cuna. Authorities have a legal period of approximately 60 days to locate biological relatives before proceeding with legal steps that could lead to adoption.

The State DIF currently has approximately 80 infants under 12 months old in its care, with a total of 1,100 children and adolescents under its custody. Meanwhile, the Subprocuraduría de Protección de Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes reported 1,759 reports of child abuse between January and July.
