Chihuahua SSPE helicopter attacked in Coyame-Ojinaga region

An armed group attacked a Chihuahua State Public Security (SSPE) helicopter with high-caliber weapons while it was conducting aerial surveillance in the Coyame-Ojinaga border region. The aircraft sustained multiple bullet impacts, including reports of fire from .50 caliber rifles.

One security agent, serving as an aerial observer, was wounded by a projectile. The crew managed to land the aircraft at the Roberto Fierro International Airport in Chihuahua City, where the injured officer was transferred to a hospital. The officer is reported to be conscious and in stable condition, though medical procedures were required to address the wound.

Secretary of Public Security Gilberto Loya Chávez characterized the assault as a “terrorist act” committed by organized crime. In response, the SSPE has launched a massive security operation involving the National Guard, the Mexican Army, and state police across the Coyame-Ojinaga corridor to locate the perpetrators.
