Chihuahua State Archive receives historical notary documents
Historical documents from the Fondo del Notariado have been transferred to the Archivo General del Estado de Chihuahua (AGECH) under a special security operation. The collection, which includes notary books, wills, and various legal instruments dating from 1721 to 1993, provides insight into the legal, economic, social, and family history of Chihuahua over more than two centuries.
The transfer was supported by the State Public Security Secretariat and personnel from the Public Registry of Property to ensure the safe handling of the patrimonial assets. This move is part of a loan agreement between the Secretaría General de Gobierno and the AGECH, led by Santiago De la Peña and Cinthia Paola Reynoso.
The AGECH's Department of Document Management and Preservation will oversee the reception, organization, and technical conservation of the materials. Future efforts will include creating a documentary inventory, description, and digitalization to facilitate research and public access without risking the integrity of the original documents.
