Chihuahua State Congress forms technical committee for forest fire sanctions

The Chihuahua State Congress, through its Forest Resources Commission led by Deputy Jaime Torres Amaya, has established a technical committee to analyze a legislative initiative proposed by Deputy Edith Palma. The proposal aims to establish specific sanctions for individuals who cause forest fires through negligence and resulting environmental damage.

The initiative seeks to reform the Penal Code, as well as state laws regarding Sustainable Forest Development and Education. Key provisions include prison sentences ranging from six months to two years for those found responsible for negligent forest fires. Additionally, the proposal mandates that responsible parties must restore the affected areas.

The technical committee includes representatives from the State Government's Secretariat of Rural Development, the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR), and the State Attorney General's Office. The group will also evaluate preventive measures, such as incorporating forest fire training and orientation into student social service programs.
