Chihuahua State Security strengthens prison oversight and certification efforts
The Chihuahua State Secretariat of Public Security (SSPE), led by Secretary Luis Aguirre, is implementing measures to improve the state's penitentiary system. In Hidalgo del Parral, the Cereso No. 4 facility is preparing for an initial audit by the Correctional Association as part of a process to obtain international certification. This initiative aims to strengthen operational standards and social reintegration processes, with the Secretary noting that 100 percent of the prison population is currently enrolled in reintegration programs.
In Chihuahua City, authorities conducted an extraordinary security review at Cereso No. 2. The operation, which involved the Secretariat of National Defense and the State Human Rights Commission, included inspections of 376 cells and 725 inmates. While no dangerous items were found, officials seized unauthorized clothing, handmade board games, and other non-permitted items. These actions are part of a broader effort to ensure governance and safety within the facilities to support effective social reintegration.
