Chișinău International Airport faces traffic and safety concerns

Chișinău International Airport is facing significant operational pressure due to rising traffic volumes. The facility is currently processing over 1,900 passengers per hour during peak periods, more than double its designed capacity of approximately 800 passengers per hour. The busiest intervals have been identified between 01:00 and 05:00.

In addition to passenger congestion, aviation platform Runway 08 has raised concerns regarding ground safety and infrastructure. The platform criticizes a recent operational directive from the airport, arguing that it merely reiterates existing rules rather than addressing underlying safety risks.

Specific concerns include 11 points where vehicle roads intersect with aircraft taxiways. Critics note that the infrastructure was designed for 20-30 operations per day, but the airport now handles over 170. Proposed solutions include reducing vehicle crossings through longer routes or installing traffic lights, rather than relying on administrative reminders.
