Chișinău International Airport modernization delayed by tender disputes
Expansion and modernization works at Chișinău International Airport, also known as Eugen Doga International Airport, have been delayed due to unresolved legal challenges. Although officials previously suggested work could begin in October, the tender process has been stalled by appeals from two economic agents. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development noted that the process must wait until all disputes are finalized through the National Agency for Settlement of Disputes.
The delay comes amid a significant rise in airport traffic. According to the Civil Aeronautics Authority, passenger numbers in September increased by approximately 18% compared to the same period last year, with nearly 762,000 travelers passing through the facility. This surge has led to increased congestion and long queues at checkpoints, particularly for flights to destinations such as Berlin, Antalya, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, London, Sharm El Sheikh, and Heraklion.
