Child car seat safety initiatives launched in California and Texas

National data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that 46% of child car seats are misused or incorrectly installed. Properly installed seats can reduce fatal-injury crashes by 71% for infants under one and by 54% for toddlers aged one through four.

In response to these safety concerns, local agencies are hosting educational events. The Huntington Beach Police Department is holding a car seat check-up event at its headquarters to provide instructions on the correct use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts.

In Texas, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is offering free car seat safety checks and hands-on education at district offices across the state to help prevent fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.
