Child Chased by Bison at Yellowstone National Park

A video recorded by Brittany Peteler on a Yellowstone boardwalk shows a child briefly chased by a large bison after a group of visitors approached the animal too closely. The bison pursued the child for several seconds before the youngster escaped unharmed.

National Park Service officials note that bison are the most common source of visitor injuries in the park, can run three times faster than humans, and should be observed from at least 25 yards away. The incident follows a series of recent bison encounters this summer, including a fisherman who narrowly avoided a charge and a vehicle that was struck by a bison, as well as a July attack that left a man with broken bones.

Park authorities continue to urge visitors to keep a safe distance from all large wildlife to prevent similar close calls.
